National Caravan Rally
Chipping 2024
Local attractions around Chipping:
The centre of the United Kingdom (Marked with a Red BT Phone Box) is said to be at Dunsop Bridge, a pretty village 20 minutes' drive to the north. On your way there, you'll pass Bowland Wild Boar Park (10 minutes), a fantastic family day out by the banks of the river Hodder. For open-air explores in the local area, you could head to Stonyhurst College (20 minutes), where JRR Tolkien once lived and worked, and set out on the Tolkien Trail through the gorgeous Ribble Valley. Alternatively, there are the dedicated cycling paths and café at Gisburn Forest (40 minutes) or shorter loops around Beacon Fell (10 minutes). Those interested in fishing, meanwhile, can get stuck in at Barnsfold Fishery (five minutes), a well-liked angling spot just up the road that specialises in trout. A day out in the historic city of Lancaster (40 minutes) should be next on the agenda if you're staying for more than just a few days – make sure to see the castle and its dungeon, which held the famous Pendle witches before their trial. A little further up the M6 brings you to the coast at Morecambe (45 minutes) or the South Lakes (it’s an hour to the southern tip of Windermere), which can often be glimpsed from the top of nearby Beacon Fell on clear days.

Chipping:
Chipping is a picturesque village on the slopes above the River Loud. In Medieval days no fewer than five water mills were sited along Chipping beck.
This is a conservation area with stone-built cottages, 17th century school and Alms houses endowed by John Brabin, dyer and cloth merchant.
The village also has a 13th century church, which was partly re-built in 1505 and in 1706 and again in the nineteenth century. The font has been in use for over 400 years.
Chipping has a cheese maker, a chair factory, and a craft centre. Several attractive Inns are to be found in the village centre. Lizzy Dean was a serving wench at the Sun Inn. She was engaged to be married to a local man. On the morning of her wedding, on hearing the church bells, she looked out of the window of her room in the Sun Inn and saw her bridegroom leaving the church with another bride on his arm. She hanged herself in the attic of the pub. Her last request was that her grave
be dug in the path to the church so that her ex-boyfriend had to walk over it every Sunday. She died in 1835 aged 20 and is said to still haunt the Sun Inn.
